Max wants to grow his hair really long in the back for Halloween, so he can dress up as a rock star, and maybe spike up the top? He spends hours looking in the mirror after his bath, spiking his wet hair and trying to decide just how long he wants to grow it. Shoulder length? Waist length?
He asked me in great excitement and trepidation if it would be okay, and whether they would mind at school. He will cut it short again, he says, after Halloween.
I told him to go right ahead and grow his hair long, and I would send a note to school explaining about Halloween.
This website was invented many years ago, when the author kept coming across interesting things in pockets whilst doing laundry. Like small, terrified reptiles. Blogging about raising children in the rainforest, moving them to the UK and watching them leave home one by one to have their own adventures has gradually been replaced by a return to grownup life for their mother, Nan Sheppard, who is an anthropologist, writer and public international law consultant.

My son heard that eating carrots helps hair grow faster. Maybe you can relay this to your son. He's seriously running out of time for that waist-length 'do.
Does the school care how long his hair is?
