"Everyday objects such as cups, jugs, and bottles - carefully grouped on tables or shelves - became the subject matter that fascinated Giorgio Morandi for almost 30 years."
Lucy Watson, "the Artist's Sketchbook"
If I had to draw and paint jars and bottles for 30 years, I think I would have to tear my clothes off and run screaming through the town. Maybe this is why some artists go mad? Even the "wildlife art/birds and flowers" trend is losing it's appeal after just 15 years. But they SELL! What to do? Keep doing pretty birds and flowers and go mad with money in my pocket, or revert to "starving artist" mode?
Flossy, help! Drag me out of my studio, and into the "plein aire"!
This website was invented many years ago, when the author kept coming across interesting things in pockets whilst doing laundry. Like small, terrified reptiles. Blogging about raising children in the rainforest, moving them to the UK and watching them leave home one by one to have their own adventures has gradually been replaced by a return to grownup life for their mother, Nan Sheppard, who is an anthropologist, writer and public international law consultant.
