what IS in a name?

When Sean became a captain, after years of hard work and study, his mother and I realised that he could never have done it without us.

And why, we wondered, does he get to be "Captain" anything, (for example, Smith) and not us? After all we had sacrificed and done??

For weeks, we referred to one another by our new assumed titles: "Hello, is this Mrs. Captain S?"

"Why, hello, Mother of Captain S!"

And so on. We feel that we ought to petition for a new law, which states that the woman who stands by the successful man should receive a proper title. We all know, they could not do it without us!
