This website was invented many years ago, when the author kept coming across interesting things in pockets whilst doing laundry. Like small, terrified reptiles. Blogging about raising children in the rainforest, moving them to the UK and watching them leave home one by one to have their own adventures has gradually been replaced by a return to grownup life for their mother, Nan Sheppard, who is an anthropologist, writer and public international law consultant.

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas From my NEW IPAD! Sean can really keep a secret :) thank you babe! We have been having a lovely time, watching five inches of rain fall in the rainforest (the sound of five inches of rain crashing onto a galvanized roof... Mind-bending. It sounds like the end of the world. And then it stops, and you can hear more coming up the valley. Sounds like a train.)
Where was I? I have no photos on my BRAND NEW IPAD yet, and we have been unplugged and Internet-free in a wonderful way. When we get back to civilization we will sort through the zillion photos and tell you a few stories.
The Happiest of Christmases and a bright and joyous new year to all of my fabulous readers! I Hope that Santa has been generous, and that you DON'T eat 7,000 calories today, which I hear is the average, and that is just crazy... Save some leftovers for next week. Stuffing sandwiches, nomm nomm!

Well, I made a Chocolate Marquis cake for Christmas and it has 500 grams of dark 70% chocolate and 10 eggs (yes...TEN EGGS... that is not a typo!). And also of course lots of cream and custard to go with it! So that must be a meeellion calories in one wafer thin slice... =P
Yes, merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone!
